Late May bank holiday weekend – dive Teignmouth, Torbay (the trip formally advertised as Isle of Wight).

Why: A chance to dive a new location (for Hellfins) in Torbay/ Lyme Bay. Between West Bay and Plymouth so the diving should be fab.

Dive boat: Seaquest with Teign diving (http://www.teigndivingcentre.co.uk)

When: arrive on Friday 24 May, dive for 3 days (25 to 27 May)

Who: The local wreckage is in 20 to 30m so you’ll need to be a sports diver.

How much: approx £150 for diving, about £100 for B&B accommodation

Following on from the dive planning meeting, I have a provisional hold on the Aquanauts boat for a weekend of diving out of Plymouth. There are 10 spaces and I’m intending to dive some of the well known wrecks in the area with the Scyll and the James Eagan Layne being two obvious candidates. This should be fun in its own right but would also be ideal preparation for anyone going on one of the two Scapa Flow trips running later in the year.

The diving is likely to be below 20m so you will need to be a sports diver or above to book on the trip.

If there is sufficient interest I’ll firm up the booking with Aquanauts and start looking at accommodation. If people are interested, I’m available at tim.gosling@gmail.com.

I’ve still got a few spaces left for diving in Plymouth on 8th/9th June with Aquanauts. The aim is to dive the Scylla and the James Eagan Layne, two popular and largely intact wrecks just outside of Plymouth. Both are in about 25m of water and are ideal for sports divers. A long weekend in Anglesey – talk to Kim

Dear All,

I’m looking at organising a trip to St Abbs, Scotland. St Abbs is the UK’s oldest marine reserve and is a treasure trove of life and dramatic scenery – probably the best scenic diving in the UK. http://www.marine-reserve.co.uk/

Its rocky bottom means that visibility is normally good and often excellent. The walls are covered with soft corals and various forms of marine life.

The diving is suitable for Ocean Diver+. New joiners and people new to UK diving should consider this as a good opportunity to getting into UK waters. People for whom this will be first UK dive/newbie I would strongly recommend that you jump in the quarry before hand just to get used to the conditions.

Last year 22 finners had a great time.

Dry suits are recommended. People have dived in their Semi-Dry suit last year. The majority of the diving is shallow (less than 20m).

We’ll be diving off Billy Aitchison’s boat which the club has used before – http://www.divestay.co.uk/ – including the famous Cathedral rock.
