Brighton Day Trips 2018

Hi all,

I have 3 dates provisionally booked with Channel Diver for next year. Dates are 13th May, 24th June & 26th August. Diving will be out of either Brighton or Eastbourne, not sure which yet. Diving will be within Sports Diver limits, and probably in the 25-30m range, so all very suitable for new sports divers, or people new to UK diving. Usual format of a wreck dive followed be drifty reef dive.

Cost is £50 per person. Diving at reasonable times for those concerned I’ve gone for mega early starts!

Currently looking to gauge numbers before confirming the booking with the skipper.

Let me know if you’re interested. And any questions from those new to club just let me know.

Cheers

Matt

AGM 18th October – join committee – you know you want to!

Hi all

Just sending a reminder about the upcoming AGM on 18 October, 7.30pm at the Dog House pub in Kennington.

All committee positions are up for election and we still have some roles with no nominations. In particular, we're looking for a Chair, Media Officer, Pool Equipment Officer, Social Secretary and Member without Portfolio.

Just a personal note from me, that I'll be stepping down as Chair at the AGM; having done 3 years on committee in that role, and 5 years as Social Sec, I think it's time for a break and to give someone else the chance to bring their fresh ideas. However, my experience does mean that I have lots of knoweldge of how committee works and those roles in particular. There have been challenges, but on the whole my involvement in Committee has been hugely beneficial for me, both within the club and outside of it; it's helped me develop new skills and created extra interest on my CV which I'm sure has opened doors in my career.

So if you're considering a position and concerned about whether you have the skills or the time, just drop me a line and we can have a chat through.

Katie

Practical Rescue Management SDC – Oct 27th

HI All
Quick reminder that the Practical Rescue Management (PRM) course we are running in October is open to all Sports Divers as a Skill Development Course or just an incident refresher. As usual for SDCs this will come with a useful dive rescue manual and a new shiny card for your collections.
On a serious note incidents do happen on dive club trips and effective rescue management can mean the difference between everyone getting home safe, a serious injury or worse. Waiting time for emergency services may get longer in the future so wouldn’t it be good to be able help out fellow divers and club members out when most in need.
The course is all about being ready and practiced for taking control of a rescue situation and is just one evening theory and one day practical. The practical is surface and out of water based so to avoid any confusion this is not controlled lifts or out of air drills etc.
Dates:
• Theory – Wednesday 25th October at The Constitution
• Practical – Saturday 28th October at Gildenburgh Water
Let me know if you want to sign up by 30 September, email: bruno AT chillibruno DOT com
Thanks
 Bruno

2018 Ski/Board Trip

Hi Hellfins,

We have organised another week of snow, sun, beer and skiing/boarding!

Destination: La Plagne, France
Date: 03 – 10 Mar 2018
Chalet: Chalet Clarine (Sleeps 18)
Altitude: Belle Plagne (2050M)

http://winter.la-plagne.com/station/welcome-to-la-plagne/altitude.html

The chalets is situated right on the piste in the Balcons de Belle Plagne complex making access to the skiing extremely easy. The perfect choice for ski-in/out convenience.
All rooms enjoy en suite facilities with their own Jacuzzi bath. Some rooms also benefit from their own balcony. Being part of a complex means guests can enjoy the use of the fitness centre, sauna and massage facilities (all payable locally, open 16.00hrs to 20.00hrs) with free access to the pool (reservation required). There is also a bar and ski hire shop within the complex and other night spots and restaurants are within easy walking distance.
This is the clubs largest trip, everyone is welcome. We already have interest from experts to new skiers. Whatever your level, we will find an appropriate skiing buddy/ski school for you!

If you are interested please let either Lucy or Anil know. Once you have registered interest we will email soon with a request for deposit. If you want to ask questions about the trip, please email, or find one or other of us at the Constitution on a Wednesday evening.

The Package:
It is an all-inclusive package, this includes flights, transfer, half-board, ski-hire (silver package) and local area pass (£245), people with own skis and board can swap ski-hire for carriage and bit of a discount. We think this is a great value package given the high resort, chalet standard and location.

Cost: £1054
Deposit: £175
Remainder: 30 Nov 2017

All the best,

Lucy and Anil

Vobster Splash-out – 7/8 October.

Hi all,

Just a quick email about the Vobster Splash-Out. For those of you who haven’t been before, the Splash-Out is fun and friendly weekend trip at Vobster Quay in Frome Somerset. It’s a relaxed couple of days with a chance to well and truly rinse the salt off your kit before winter storage, and also an opportunity to complete any last few bits of training that you might need to do.

This year the Splash-out is on Saturday 7th October and Sunday 8th October. It’s open to everyone irrespective of diver grade, and it’s a case of the more the merrier!

If you’d like to come along, please could you let me know:
• Which days (Saturday / Sunday / both) you’d like to attend.
• Whether you need accommodation, and if so which nights.
• Whether you’d like to do some teachin’ or learnin’ and if so which lessons.
• If you need to hire any kit from the club.

As ever, any questions, drop me a line.

Cheers,
Janos

2018 calendar updated – have a browse, book some diving!

Thanks to all that came along to the planning meeting last week, and thanks to those organising trips and giving support, and to those still in planning stage.

The 2018 calendar can be found here: http://www.hellfins.com/diving/trips-2018/

Do have a look – and book on some trips! If you want to be put in touch with an organiser but don’t know who they are please drop me a line or grab me down the pub (Aspalls or a whiskey thanks).
If you’re an organiser let me know if any details need correcting – diver level etc.

13 dive trips for next year is a good start for this point in 2017, but there’s plenty of space for more. We’ll have another planning meeting late November or early December to mop up as many remaining weekends as possible.

Cheers
Oli

Plymouth diving trip – Late May bank holiday 2018

Hi all

I’m planing a dive trip to Plymouth on 26-28 May 2018.

We’re diving with the top notch skipper Danny at Discovery Divers on Red Alert. Diving will be a mix of classic wrecks (Scylla, JEL, Persia, Maine) and really good scenic (Eddystone, Hands Deep). We’ll be diving on the Saturday / Sunday / Monday. It’s some of my favourite UK diving and this year I managed to arrange bright sunshine, flat calm seas and great viz. Fingers crossed for next May!

This trip is suitable for sports divers and you’ll need to be comfortable diving to 30m.

Cost will be approx £50 per day for diving and £25 to £30 per night for accommodation. As usual I’ll be asking for an initial payment to secure your place – and if you drop out you’ll be liable for the full amount unless a suitable other diver can be found.

Hope you can make it! (Have I mentioned late May is also basking shark season…).

If you are interested then drop me a line at pippa at pipparouse dot co dot uk
