august 2004

Time to start thinking about which committee post you'd like next year.

Every year the whole committee stands down and we start with a new one. Everyone is encouraged to put themselves forward.

This year has been a real zinger - more trips going out than anyone can remember and loads of people gaining qualifications. It isn't over yet. Of the thirty days in September, hellfins are planning to be diving on sixteen of them!

Hellfins AGM

This year, the hellfins Annual General Meeting will be held on 6th October in the basement function room of The Slug and Lettuce. Food will be served at 7:30pm and proceedings will start at 8:00pm.

We encouraged everyone to put themselves forward for a post. Very few of the current committee are standing for a post this year - so get on in there! It's what makes the club run and is a great way to give something back.

the Posts and their responsibilites are outlined below. Email your chosen position to chairman@hellfins.com:

Chairman

  1. Represents the "formal" face of HSAC in correspondence with external bodies.
  2. Chairs the monthly committee meeting.
  3. Organises and chairs the AGM and any EGMs that are held during the year

Secretary

Writes up committee meeting minutes & actions and distributes them to committee

Membership Secretary

  2. Processes new member applications to the club
  3. Processes all HSAC/BSAC membership renewals each year
  4. The club contact with BSAC on all BSAC membership matters
  5. Holds and updates club records (e.g. Address lists, Membership lists)
  6. Orders the BSAC training packs for new members on receipt of the appropriate fee.

Treasurer

  1. Determines budgets and funding of HSAC each year
  2. Completes accounts for the previous year
  3. Ensures marshals collect dive charges
  4. Authorises and plans any expenditure
  5. Runs and maintains the club bank accounts

Diving Officer

(Minimum qualification - Advanced Diver and Club Instructor)

  1. Overall responsibility for diving safety in the club
  2. Sets the rules by which club dives are undertaken and decides club diving policy
  3. Organises and co-ordinates entire diving programme for each year
  4. Expected to be an active and enthusiastic diver
  5. Contact with BSAC on all diving matters

Equipment Officer - Pool

(Requires full-training in compressor operation before commencing role.)

  1. Maintains and services all equipment in Shell Centre
  2. Maintains register of all kit, and ensures forms are available for signing out equipment to be hired
  3. Purchases kit when required
  4. Have the surname "Pelosi" [only kidding - ed]

Equipment Officer - Boat

Responsible for everything to do with the RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) including storage; insurance; maintenance; purchase of spares; cleaning; preparation for start of season etc.

Social Secretary

Media Officer

  1. Responsible for publicity to attract new members.

Member without Portfolio

No other specific activities but expected to lend a hand when required. In the past the M w/o P has tended to be someone who provides an alternative view. e.g. Someone who has been a member of another club, is new to the club or has other relevant experience (e.g. has crossed over from from another dive training agency)

Chairman

Swanage: 18-19th September

Two spaces have become available on my Swanage trip on 18th / 19th of September. We'll probably be staying in caravans, and definitely be doing plenty of good diving.

Minimum qualification for this trip is Sports Diver. Email me if you're interested!
