ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Hellfins Sub-Aqua Club is full of keen, skilful divers and is a branch with bags of potential. On October 30th we will be holding our AGM which will appoint a new committee. They will be responsible for guiding the club through next year.

If you have an interest in being part of that committee please put yourself forward to Allan (allan.hesse@ukpia.com). The most important quality is enthusiasm. If you've got it flaunt it! Current committee will be delighted to advise on how to get involved and what (if any) special skills are needed for specific posts.

The AGM will be held in the function room of Bar Med on 30th October at 8pm. There'll be free food!

Here's a map. The current posts and incumbents are in the club section as well as a complete definition of roles and responsibilities visit.

The posts up for grabs are:

  • Chairman
  • Diving Officer
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Membership Secretary
  • Training Officer
  • Assistant Training Officer
  • Equipment Officer (Pool)
  • Equipment Officer (Boat)
  • Social Secretary
  • Media Officer
  • Member without Portfolio

At the AGM it is also customary to hand out a few awards. It is up to you to vote as to who you think is most deserving. Feel free to make up your own awards. The more awards the better!

If you make up a new award, you also have to make up a prize, but you don't have to stand up and hand it over - so don't feel inhibited!

The current awards are as follows -

  • Trainee of the Year
  • Diver of the Year
  • Merit Award - (For the person who has contributed to the club in one way or another)
  • The Greg Award - For the person you think has the done the most stupidest, silliest thing on a dive trip

Plus whatever other awards you can come up with.

Please e-mail Nicky (nicky@hellfins.com) with your nominations - The closing date for sending your choice is October 18th.

Don't forget this years AGM is being held on Wednesday 30th at BAR MED in the function room. The Bar will be open and food will laid on.

Please let Nicky (nicky@hellfins.com) know if you are going to attend so she knows how many people we are catering for.

WRITING COMPETITION

Entries go to sidlothian@hotmail.com, or just e-mail a URL from something you've done before. I'll put together the package with any photos we've got (or send me some), the GPS, directions etc.

MEDES - IT WAS GOOD

Full story with photos at in the Features section.

Big thanks to Mike, Chris, Mary, Nigel and Spring for providing training as we went along and congratulations to Cleggy on getting his Sports Diver signed off with an afternoon dragging me up the beach.

Big thanks too to Bob, Eleanor and Jo for being such great company down in the apartment (Everyone else got the pool but, hey, we got the view!)

Absolutely HUGE thanks to Kerry for organising it all. It was the best trip of the year and I loved every minute.

Some favourite quotes from the holiday:

"Ye dinni need all that weet! Tik three keelos off..." - Frank, our Geordie host, who felt everyone was over-weighted (and annoyingly was mostly right)

"You get novices like that sometimes" - Mike, having spent an entire dive leader training dive completely ignoring me, poking the coral, pinching Mary and deliberately screwing up absolutely everything.

"It's fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A!" - Mike and some other people (can't remember who) in the karioke bar

"Could I have a table for twenty please?" - Claire, pretty much every night

"Is that my Kowalski?" - Confusion on the boat as everyone had just bought the same torch (with slight variations of colour and size)

"Now that's a steak" - Ian, on seeing Cleggy serve the huge rib of beef he cooked on the barbecue

"Show me the way to go home..." - Sung (loudly) by Bob and Eleanor one night walking home after a particularly "hearty" meal

NEXT YEAR'S DIVING - LET'S PLAN...

The annual dive planning meeting will be on November 20th. Next year looks like it will be pretty busy, so this is the time to book a slot in the diary for the trip you were planning.

Anyone can organise a trip. It's easy. If you want to go somewhere, and want to take some friends come along and reserve that spot! If it's all a bit speculative, pencil in something now and firm it up later. If you haven't organised a trip before, don't be shy. All the existing members will be happy to offer advice and there are phone numbers and useful links in the briefcase.

ADIOS .CO.UK

Since we moved over to hellfins.com we kept on hellfins.co.uk for a year to make sure everyone had the new address. It cost a little bit of money and now we've let that one go. All of the search engines are up to date, and I _think_ everyone knows. If you can't find the site, look on your t-shirt!
