SPONSORED EGG-A-FIN

This will take place at the Shell Center on the Wednesday 3rd July From 5:30 - 7:30pm

We will be holding a sponsored egg-a-fin to raise money for the club and our chosen charity: The Diving Diseases Research Centre.

The 'DDRC' is a registered charity (No. 279652) located in Plymouth. It was established in 1980 to research the effects of diving on human physiology and since then has become a world authority on Hyperbaric Medical Treatments. Hyperbaric Medicine is not just for divers - it is an effective treatment for many diseases including cancer.

If you would like to know more about the work of the DDRC you can visit their web site

The money raised will be divided 50/50 between the club and the DDRC.

So what is an Egg-A-Fin?

Well basically it is like an underwater egg and spoon race - without the racing bit. We will send out more detail very soon, so watch this space! A sponsorship form will be available to download from the website or you can collect one from Nicky on a Wednesday night.

Everyone can take part either finning with an egg, as a safety diver in the pool or helping with the kit on the poolside.

If you would like more information at this stage contact Nicky (nicky@hellfins.com)

COURSES

There has been a lot of interest in skills development courses in the branch, so Phil and Mike have organised some regional instructors to hold two to start off with:

The Life-Saver Award is the first step in developing rescue skills. The course deals with pratical rescue and concludes with an examination and the Award for successful candidates. It's open to all divers so contact Mike (mikewilko@yahoo.com) to book a place.

The Nitrox course gives an understanding of Enriched Air Nitrox diving. It is a comprehensive course covering the safety aspects of using Nitrox, mixing and analysis and the management and organisation of dives using Nitrox. If you are qualified as a club diver or above and are interested contact Mike (mikewilko@yahoo.com)

If you fancy starting your instructor training, there is just one more Instructor Training Course before the autumn. It's on 18/19th May in London, open to Sports Diver and above. For more information you can read about Sid's experience on one recently or contact central bookings at BSAC on their website at www.bsachq.com/events/poe2002ifc.htm

DIVE TRIPS

There are still some trips with spaces available this season. Contact Kerry if you have still to book for Medes in September or Phil if you fancy a trip to Gozo in Ocotober.

If you are planning a trip to Medes (and so far nineteen people are!) you might like to get some qualifications signed off or brush up a bit before you go. There are RIB trips running in June, July and August. For more details contact Richard (richard_thrale@hotmail.com) for June or Sid (sidlothian@hotmail.com) for July and August.

As always you can find out about all our trips on in the Diary.

PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE

Why not wet your appetite for September with a few photos of last year's trip to The Medes?

If you cannot remember if you were at The Loop last month you can check for photographic evidence. If you would like to remove any it only costs a tenner per photo ;-) Once again, thank you Nicky for a fab event! [was i there? OhMyGodThatsMe! - ed]

Those photos of the Courchevel trip we _could_ publish are on the here too.

CAPTION COMPETITION

If you looked at all those photos you probably had a bit of a groan at my sad attempts to put funny captions to them.

This is your chance!

We have the pictures from last year's trip to Stoney but we need some captions. You can suggest your own or just vote for other peoples. There will be a BIG prize for the person who gets most votes. Have a go.
