Hellfins New Engine

As many of you are aware nearly two years ago I made an application, on behalf of the club, to the millennium commission for funds to purchase a new 4 stroke engine for the RIB. Unlike other lottery grants this was a one year special to celebrate the millennium, the key differences were that you did not have to spend your own money as well (most lottery grants require at least an equal funding from the applicant) and the top grant was limited to five thousand pounds. The idea was to help small clubs and community projects achieving extra funding easily and thus help them celebrate the new millennium. Unfortunately we were turned down on a technicality (due to the way our constitution was set up).

A large number of clubs, like ourselves, were turned down for funding due to similar technicalities and thus did not received additional funding. The lottery commission, aware of this issue (and partly because they were unable to allocate all the millennium money for this very reason) set up a new funding body - Awards for All to achieve the same goals.

In June of 2001 a new application was sent (this entails a 23 page report, obtaining a referee, providing quotations and evidence of budgets, AGMs and bank statements), I had hoped to be able to let the club know the outcome at my final AGM as chairman but unfortunately the Awards for All body were still cogitating.

I am, however, pleased to announce that the commission have finally got off the pot and awarded Hellfins five thousand pounds towards a new boat engine.
