Scuba Diving in Spain - Medes |

It was a cold September morning at Stansted but only two hours later and a thousand miles
further there was basking sun in Barcelona. Two getaway blokes masquerading as taxi drivers (hired by Kerry) took us
from the airport to Estartit, the speed was furious and the excitement high, which set the tone for the whole week.

The first night we spent indulging in the local cuisine of burgers, pork and chips.

We enjoyed good traditional
Spanish food served by friendly and welcoming locals who were clearly impressed by our table arranging skills.
Thankfully we finished in time to get to the local club in time for the unexpected gay hour.
The call of the deep was too much to resist the next day and so we were soon on the boat sailing out to
Medas the sleeping giant. The 20-degree water with viz consistently over 10m was teaming with life. There
where big moody looking groupers, lots of freiendly Bream, Barracudas, stonefish, sea cucumbers and even
some eels all guarding the resting giant. The wreck was great too peering into portholes and down dark staircases.

There were blue holes in which shafts of light came down though making the fish light up as they swam by. The large
entrance and exits although dark enough to be dramatic were not so claustrophobic to be terrifying. For those
looking for the dark side there was plenty of opportunity

to explore a long tunnel with no light
visible when halfway through. For those that were even keener an ascent could be made up into an enclosed
cave air pocket. The air was good to breathe and it was an amazing photo moment".

This was a fab holiday and a very big thank-you goes to Kerry for organising it. The Medes is a must for all next year, and we even had time for a spot of horse riding. Any information regarding the best local chocolate
ice contact mike, he's an expert!
