HSAC Holiday Training Week

At the Dive Planning Meeting I said I would look at the possibility of running a training week at the beginning of next season. Ed as Open Water Training Officer and Shona as Diving Officer are encouraging this event to take place so here it is. The following is the way I intend to go about it:

1) Outline Plan

Location - Will be abroad so that water temperature and weather will not stop the training. Plus I will try to make it as feasibly cheap as possible. I will be looking at Medes / Malta / Gozo / Madeira / Red Sea / Menorca. Or any other good suggestions.

Dates - At the start of next season likely to be end March or April 04

Cost - To be honest I do not have any real idea but will have in due course. My guess is that it will be about £500 all in. Please be aware that you will get plenty of diving, training and a good holiday for your money. We intend that everyone will achieve skills that they want by making this the aim of the event.

Focus - Primarily the focus will be on training, however there will be time when you may want a break or due to skills being covered they will not be suitable. We will select a location will will allow us to dive when not actually training.

Skills Coverage - The intention is to cater for as many of the branch as possible so if you are interested in training in any of the following categories this could be for you:

Ocean Diver (open water skills as pool skills will be covered beforehand)

Sports Diver (open water skills as pool skills will be covered beforehand)

Dive Leader

Advanced Diver

Theory Instructor

Open Water Instructor

Advanced Instructor

• Depending on the interest we will tailor the training towards demand.
• The intention is to focus on practical diving although some theory can be taught as well if demand is there.
• Instructors who teach will also get the chance to develop their skills and gain steps towards DL or Advanced Diver as well as practicing for instructor qualifications.

2) Gauge Potential Interest - ACTION NEEDED

In order to see whether this is going to be feasible to run I need to know if you are interested in doing a week like this. Please let me know by mid December:

1) If you are interested and your current diving qualification.

2) If you are willing to teach and your current instructor qualification.

Depending on feedback, from potential interest, I will look at the few options and come up with some specific details about location, cost, accommodation, flights etc.

4) Collect Commitment and Deposits

Depending on feedback, from the specific details, commitment and payment will be sorted out.

5) Finalise training plan

During the run up to the holiday meetings will held to sort out the training timetables and cover all relevant matters.
